I finally got my long-awaited "real" camping trip! You know, not just putting a tent up in the backyard, but going to and sleeping at a real campsite. We went to Richard Bong Recreation Area in Southeastern WI for just one night of camping to try it on for size. It fit great! The location was beautiful and the weather was perfect, it only got down to the 50's at night. The kids, including Spumoni, had a blast and Matt agreed it was fun, too. Camping family? Hope so!

| Setting up the tent is a lot of fun when you have two helpers walking off with all the necessary parts. |
| Gorgeous weather both Saturday and Sunday |
| Peek a boo! |
| To keep things easier we didn't make our own food at the site, we picked up food and ate it there. Saturday night's feast was fried chicken from the local grocery store. |
| That's the tent from my childhood of being a camping family - you still got it, old tent! |
| Pretty sunset |
| campfire |
| Matt and I were on the air mattress and the kids were in sleeping bags on the ground. By the morning they had both crawled into bed with us though to be warmer and snugglier. |
| Spumoni and I went for a walk in the am |
| Enjoying the sunrise |
| "Roughing it" - watching a show in the morning |
| Leftover chicken breakfast for Spumoni |
| Going for a hike |
| Small beach in the State Park |
| "Fishing" |
| Spreading milkweed pods |
| Petting Spumoni on his butt |
| We stopped at a bison farm on our way back home - who would have expected that in southern WI? |
I haven't done a kid update in a while, here are a few things I can think of right now:
Claire is in a phase where she thinks it is hilarious to say "poopy!" "tooty!" "vagina!" "penis!" always cracking herself up by saying these things. We get stern with her and say "No potty talk!" but she doesn't seem much to care. We've started to have to do time outs when she continues to declare these words, but I have to admit sometimes her combinations of regular sentences with those potty talk words "hidden" in there is pretty creative.
Not sure if I've documented this before, but Matt and I think (other than the potty talk) Claire communicates about 90% in whine. Just in the past few days I've been noticing her talking more than whining when she wants something and it is so refreshing! Dare I hope we've turned a corner on the terrible 2's?
I was told before we had Claire that a boy/girl combo of kids meant a more peaceful household than same gender siblings. I have not necessarily found this to be the case. Luke and Claire fight all the time. They both are trouble makers who like things their own way! If it isn't Luke bugging Claire, it is Claire getting into Luke's business. The rare moments when they do get along are so sweet, though. Especially when Luke is gentle and kind with her, teaching her how to do things and she is so appreciative.
We had progress reports at school for both the kids - no problems to report for either of them.
| Matt and I went out to dinner, stoping by the Highwood Pumpkin Festival, on Friday night for our 11th anniversary. |
| Nice day for soccer |
| After soccer I was making Claire lunch before her nap and when it was ready I looked over and she had fallen asleep already before eating! We have swim lessons together on Saturday mornings, and it must have worn her out. |
| Luke playing in the squishy mud of the addition. |
