Thanksgiving 2021

Thanksgiving was spent at our house, with Donna and Emil bringing everything again (like last year), but this year we enjoyed the meal together.

The next day we got our Christmas tree

With the lake house kitchen demolished, we made up a make-shift dining area in the upstairs office and ordered food in!

Luke gets the 'Rona

November, 2021

This week back last November is the week that Luke got COVID.  Boo!  He and Claire had just gotten the COVID vaccine, too, just a few days earlier.  Fortunately he wasn't very sick, he just had cold-like symptoms for about a week.  Unfortunately, we had to cancel our Thanksgiving trip to Florida that we had planned to spend the holiday with Mom and Dad.  The 10 days of quarantine plus 14 days of isolation for Claire (not fully vaccinated at this time yet) meant another 3 weeks of home-time and our second year in a row of being quarantined on Thanksgiving.  At least we know how to do it, and this time Matt and I weren't required to be in quarantine as fully vaccinated people so that was easier.  Several kids in Luke's band at school tested positive, so we are thinking that is where he was exposed.  Luke lived in the guest room/guest bath for his 10 days, and we moved the TV in there with his video games and served all his meals in there.  I think part of him liked it, but he was glad to escape every now and then to the basement - and on Thanksgiving (his Day 10) he joined us for the holiday dinner.

Thoughtfully-sent cookie bouquet from Kristin and Cory to cheer us up

Claire loved the dog theme!

Cinnamon rolls and chili from business school friend Katherine, so sweet!

Great report card!

Coffee cake from the Murrill's - Luke was supposed to go to the Purdue game with them and had to cancel.

Hot Cocoa bombs and a gingerbread house kit from the Gianakopolous family

We played computer games with Luke while he was in the guest room and with Mom and Dad in FL.  So fun and a nice distraction.

Ears Pierced

November, 2021

Exciting news from this week last November was that Claire got her ears pierced!  I had done some research online and learned that the local tattoo and piercing parlor was the recommended place to get the most professional and healthy piercing.  It was great and the experience was painless and easy. Little did I know, though, that this particular piercing establishment recommends one whole year of starter earrings without taking them out!  Like the earrings don't even have backs, you can't take them out!  I feel good that her earring holes are going to be super amazing once this year is up and they will serve her well throughout her life, with no infections.  Claire was very brave and did awesome during the needle piercings.  She chose little paw print earrings that are adorable.  We were happy to have Grandma Donna with us to observe the great event:)
