It was bound to happen sooner or later, but I was hoping for "later", yes I'm talking about an ER visit for your kid. On July 28th we had a bit of a situation when Claire had to have 3 stitches put in to close a laceration under her right eye. She was playing in the basement with Luke when Luke decided to tow his toy ambulance up the basement stairs with his toy tow truck. Well, the tow hook came unhooked and the ambulance went tumbling down the stairs and a corner of it met Claire's face, who had been playing at the bottom of the stairs. We went to the pediatrician first, but he recommended we take her right to the ER to get stitches. So Claire and I went to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital's emergency room where she was seen and it was determined she did need stitches (versus gluing or steri-strips). She did pretty well with everyone looking at it, but didn't like it one bit once they started poking around at the wound. The numbing of the area was kind of hard (they rubbed something topical on the area) and then an hour later they did the stitches, which was a pretty traumatic experience for her (and me!). They had to strap her into this board contraption that was sort of like a straight jacket. She HATED it and was so upset, screaming and crying. She got so hot and sweaty from trying to get out of it and her little face was so red. They put a paper over her face with a hole opening for the doctor to do the sutures, and then the nurse held her face still by holding two towels over her ears - so the result was that Claire kept saying panicked "Mommy!! I can't see you!! Mommy!! I can't hear you!! Mommy!!!!" I held her little hand and whispered soothing things to her and willed the whole ordeal to be over as fast as possible. Poor little thing.
In other news of the week, we had our 7th annual summer pool party and it was a great success:) We had great weather and great friends come - great combination I'd say! It was also Lake Forest Day this week - the mid-week celebration of our town and a few other notable things. Check out all the pics!

| Luke got something from his top closet shelf by putting his step stool on his chair and then reaching up really far. SUPER dangerous, so we told him not to do it again, but I was kind of impressed by his problem solving skills. |
