Boating with Ben & Linda

Ben and Linda came into town for Labor Day weekend and Luke's birthday and it was awesome spending time with them.  They hadn't been back for what felt like forever!  We loved our day with them on the boat visiting Racine and Kenosha, even though we had boat engine trouble that led to a bit of an adventure!

We took the boat to Kenosha first and walked around downtown

Kenosha harbor is really cute

Docking and lunching is a pretty nice treat

Dramatic tone never disappoints

My favorite part of the outing was cruising down the Root River in Racine - looking at all the boats, sunning ourselves and chatting the time away.

A pic for Grandma Della:)

Just after we left Racine one of our two engines failed, so we had to go the whole way back at only around 10 mph (vs 30 with both engines).  Not only did it take 3 hours instead of 1 hour to get back, but we weren't going fast enough to blow off all the biting flies.  We all had to cover ourselves up to protect our skin from the little buggers!
D&E taking cover in the cabin, although the flies were down there too!

We got pretty good at smacking them to pass the time, with the boat floor a sea of fly carcasses, but it was a hopeless effort - there were hundreds!

While B&L were in town the 4 of us went out for yummy Indian food and hit Frost for some gelato.
