Puerto Rico Vacation

Last February we went to San Juan, Puerto Rico for an extended weekend.  We were soooooo excited to get out of the cold and into some tropical weather.  I don't know that we had ever gone on a flying-somewhere vacation with just the four of us before this trip, since our Alaska vacation was postponed.  It was really fun just to do our own thing every day and enjoy the beautiful amenities at the fancy St. Regis Bahia Beach hotel we stayed at.  Lots of memories for the ole memory bank!  We had such a fun time!

Waiting for Dad to get our rental car at the airport - feeling the warm air

The grounds were so gorgeous

Very vocal tropical birds

Boogie boarding

There was an awesome inflatable adventure course on the property in a freshwater lake

The kids claimed this was their favorite part of the trip, they really enjoyed it.

The boat house at the lake

Paddleboarding and kayaking along the lake and in the little waterways along the golf courses.

kayaker Matt

Post-swimming relaxing in front of cartoons in the big tub for Claire

We had an excursion to go kayaking in a bioluminescent bay, so had the chance to eat in a local establishment before our evening kayak.

the local food was yummy

Climbing trees

On the kayak tour

There was a little too much light that evening to see a lot of the bioluminescence, but they had tarps that we went underneath and we could see it faintly.  It was fun kayaking in the dark and it was beautiful, in any case.

Full day waterfall hike tour the next day in the El Yunque Rainforest, the only rainforest on the island of Puerto Rico, and the only rainforest in the US National Forest system.

Lots of natural waterslides and climbing of rocks

Fresh spring water to drink from

Luke jumped off this rope swing into the water and loved it, he also cliff jumped with Matt.

A couple of the water slides had big drops at the end, which Claire was NOT a fan of, but she did great!

It was a really big tour so there was a lot of waiting around.

We got back to the hotel in time for our appointment to use the sea scooter for an hour.

It was a little like a jet ski, but it could propel you underwater, it was really neat.

Cocktail hour on the great lawn

Walking back to our room via the beach (our fave route)

Walking to the Beach Club for another lovely seaside dinner

Matt's turn for the Red Snapper

He did well!

Breakfast in the room, love the coffee service
