Treehouse in the Red River Gorge, KY

For last year's (2022) Fall Break, Matt planned an unforgettable trip to a tree house in Kentucky at the Red River Gorge National Landmark.  It was so fun, I can't even describe it!  Exploring new places, unbelievable tree and cliff houses, Fall leaf peeping, nature and hiking galore - just perfect.  Lots of laughs and happy memories made.

Driving to Kentucky

We did a clear kayak cave tour - super neat.

Going up to our tree house accommodations

The treehouse had the bathroom on the ground level, then one structure for the kitchen, and the highest one was the bedroom.

We had read in the reviews that going up and down the ladder and then all the way to the bottom of the stairs to go to the bathroom was an inconvenience (esp at night), so Matt brought this super sweet port 'o potty set up using our boat toilet.  It got a lot of use.

Carrying stuff in and out of the treehouse while climbing the ladder was interesting.

Matt signed us up for a half day rock climbing day with a private guide.  Red River Gorge is famous for rock climbing, it is one of the top places in the country to go rock climbing.  Who knew?! We all really enjoyed it, although it was unseasonably cold, so everyone was kind of cold, too.

The hiking was fantastic

Lots of natural stone bridges, arches and rock formations in the gorge area.

Matt brought the projector to have a treehouse movie night.  Emperor's New Groove.

Our tree house was only one of many unique properties on this land.

There was a "cliff dweller" property with the accommodations build into the side of a cliff face!

This one was a pirate ship

This one was a bunch of domes

The people renting the Cliff Dweller invited us to take a look at their place, which we happily did.  It was really cool.

Just to get up there was like 200 steps and a few swinging bridges.

More cool hikes the next day

Food truck barbecue for lunch

hehe

Panning for gems

Chairlift ride to see the sights

Zip lining over the gorge was amazing, it was so high!  The views were gorgeous.

Campfire on our last night

Enjoying morning coffee on the treehouse porch

Stopped at a pumpkin farm outside of Indianapolis on the way home
