Luke starts Kindergarten

Luke started Kindergarten, can you believe it?  Our baby boy!!!  Class of 2029!  I had a massive panic attack that he was growing up way too fast about a week before he started, that he would be forever changed after starting real school, lose his childish innocence and so on, so I decided to take the day off before he started school to spend with him to soak it up as best I could.  Our "Mommy and Lukey Day" was amazing and just what the doctor ordered.  We had a wonderful, fantastic, memorable day:)  He was delighted and absurdly happy with every activity we did and we had a wonderful day of bonding.  I felt much more prepared for him to start school.  Luke, on the other hand, couldn't have been more excited to start Kindergarten and seemed to feel no hesitancy whatsoever.  He loved our day together too and declared that "we're going to do that every year".

The day he started Kindergarten I drove him there, parked and walked him up the sidewalk to the door, holding his little hand tightly.  He got in line for his class and then before I could even do much else they were calling in the lines to enter the school.  He gave me a quick hug and huge smile and waved excitedly, walking confidently in the door (and away from me!  symbolism!!).  I didn't think I would, but I got choked up!! Such a cliche!  The other Moms crying around me didn't help.  Anyway, I cried in my car a little and then went to work feeling a little irrationally sad for quite some time.  It was a happy day, he LOVED school and was so excited about all of the new experiences.  He is going to do great.  Mom will adjust:)  And just like that, off he goes confidently into his future.   I asked Matt how he felt about Luke starting Kindergarten and he just said "Proud."  That's for sure.

Kindergarten Walk Through the day before school starts.  Luke seeing his classroom and desk spot for the first time.

I didn't get the memo that you were supposed to bring school supplies on this day, so Luke was the only one without school supplies to get in order.  Rookie Kindergarten parents!  Oh well!  Luke and I hit the store right after the walk through and he didn't seem to mind.
