For a few weeks last summer we had Bruno, an Australian Cattle Dog from Orphans of the Storm, a local animal shelter. He was such a sweet boy, and we grew very attached to him in a short time, but unfortunately we learned the hard way with a couple minor incidents that he became protective/aggressive at times around children. Matt had a special cattle dog trainer evaluate him and give us guidance on if there was any way we could work with Bruno to train this aggressiveness away, but ultimately the trainer confirmed that there was no way of knowing if he would be safe around children and we just couldn't take a risk with kids' safety. We had to make the heartbreaking decision to return him to the shelter so he could find a home that was a better fit for him:( I wouldn't wish this situation on anyone, it was so, so hard for all of us.
